One Direction atau para fans mereka menyebutnya dengan 1D adalah grup vokal asala asal Inggris-Irlandia dengan jumlah 5 personil di awal terbentuknya, yaitu Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, dan Zayn Malik. Namun sebelum mengadakan konser di Indonesia tepatnya pada tanggal 25 Maret 2015 Zayn Malik mengundurkan diri dari grup dan memutuskan untuk bersolo karir. Lagu-lagu 1D seperti "What Makes You Beautiful" dan "Live While We're Young" benar-benar memuncaki tangga lagu di berbagai negara.
One Direction sendiri mulanya terbentuk pada tahun 2010 di London setelah keberhasilan mereka menempati posisi ketiga di ajang The X Factor musim ke-7. Mula mereka belum saling mengenal dan mendaftar sebagai penyanyi solo yang berujung pada gegalan. Seorang juri yaitu Nicole Scherzinger menyarankan mereka untuk membentuk sebuah grup vokal, dan mereka berlima melaksanakan saran tersebut. Singkat cerita mereka berhasil masuk berhasil masuk dan selama menjadi peserta mereka sempat membawakan lagu dari penyanyi papan atas dunia seperti Pink, Coldplay, dan The Beatles. Keberuntungan berpihak pada mereka yang berhasil menyabet juara 3 di bawah Rebecca Ferguson dan Matt Cardle.
Simon Cowel yang mementori mereka di The X Factor bergerak cepat dan berhasil mendapatkan tandangan One Direction. Tak berselang lama, yaitu tanggal 18 November 2011 menjadi momen penting tonggak perjalanan karir mereka yang berhasil mengeluarkan album perdana dengan tajuk "Up All Night". Lagu andalan mereka "What Makes You Beautiful" benar-benar membuat nama mereka meroket. Lagu tersebut mampu menjadi jawara selama sebulan penuh di tangga lagu Irlandia. Di Amerika mampu merangkak naik berada di posisi 4 Billboard Hot 100. Dan yang lebih fantastis adalah telah terunduh sebanyak 2.060.303 hanya di AS saja. Tidak hanya itu album ini telah terjual sebanyak 2,3 Juta kopi di seluruh dunia. Tak salah jika kehadirannya di sebuah talkshow di AS dihadiri oleh 15.000 orang. Capaian yang luar biasa bagi boy band pendatang baru.
Pada bulan November 2012 mereka kembali mengeluarkan album kedua "Take Me Home" dimana lagu-lagu One Direction banyak juga ditulis oleh para pesonilnya sendiri. Dan terbukti bahwa mereka juga seorang musisi ulung. Album kedua meledak di pasaran internasiol dan mampu memuncaki tanggal lagu di 35 negara dan menjadi salah satu album dengan penjualan terbaik di tahun 2012. Di tahun ini pula mereka melakukan tur dengan judul "Take Me Home Tour" yang akan dilakukan di 100 kota. Tur ini benar-benar sukes besar. Di Inggris hanya dalam waktu sehari tiket yang terjual mencapai 300 ribu lembar. Hanya di Australia dan Selandia Baru saja pendapatan yang diperoleh mencapai US $ 15,7 juta.
Pada tahun 2013 sampai 2015 mereka mengeluarkan 3 album yaitu Midnight Memories, Four, Made in the A.M. Walapun sekarang mereka vakum, namun pada fans mereka sangat berharap 1D suatu saat akan mengeluarkan album kembali.
